Sherlock Homes Inspection, LLC currently offers Neighborhood Environmental Reports as a supplement to a home inspection report, commercial property inspection report or as a stand alone report. Environmental reports have been available and a part of commercial property inspection reports for some time, however, residential environmental reports were not previously available. Recently Environmental Data Resources has introduced residential environmental reports that are available through EDR certified home inspectors for their clients that wish to perform proper due diligence.

The Neighborhood Environmental Report pulls records from a variety of trusted sources, including government data bases. It searches for concerns that might be dangerous to a homeowners family or investment such as, nearby leaking underground oil tanks, landfills, hazardous waste sites, and illegal drug labs.

Some of the most dangerous or costly hazards exist outside the home and can contaminate a home through pathways to human contact such as, vapor intrusion, soil, and groundwater. Just because an area appears pristine does not mean that issues are not present. A Neighborhood Environmental Report will help to protect a familys health, ensure a sound investment, and identify nearby risks.

Each environmental report contains detailed information about known and potential environmental concerns. Examples are:

  • Leaking Underground Oil Tanks
  • Hazardous Waste Sites
  • Landfills
  • Homes that have been used as illegal drug labs
  • Contamination from nearby industrial sites, farms, or accidental toxic spills
  • U.S. Environmental Protection Agencys top clean-up priority sites

The good news is that if an issue of concern is revealed, your Environmental Data Resources certified and professionally trained home inspector will be available to explain the reports findings and guide you to a solution. Solutions may include installation of a ventilation system, installation of a water filtration system, and/or periodic water quality testing.
